Baltimore Police officer sued for $5 million

After a Baltimore Police officer was videotaped by Baltimore Police surveillance camera’s beating a man, a lawsuit was filed against him. Here is another example of where the taxpayers will pay in the end. Because the police officer was on duty and working, his employer is vicariously liable for any injuries he causes. This concept is a legal theory that is used to explain that if someone is acting as an agent of someone else, the principal, the agent can bind the principal legally and the principal will be liable for actions of the agent. Here, the police officer was in uniform, on patrol. The video clearly shows this. As an officer, he is an agent of the city of Baltimore and Baltimore will be responsible for any damages the court may award. In other words, the taxpayer will end up footing the bill. And by the way, the cop is still being paid.
